  14. Error Messages Made Easy To Understand

  17. All ATM machines have a 3 digit code, when a machine goes down, or the power
  18. supply is interupted, or the host system pulls the machine down, you will get
  19. this nice friendly screen:
  20.  
  21. ATM TEMPORARILY OUT OF SERVICE
  22. PLEASE TRY ANOTHER LOCATION

  26. If you take a little time to read the following codes, you WILL know what is
  27. happening.  Also, ALMOST, not all, BUT almost, all machines, are serviced by
  28. the institution that the machine is from, your own bank may have about 10 or so
  29. machines throughout town, and they WILL say the name of the institution on it.
  30. Anyways, the institution has a person, or several ( depending on size of the
  31. institution ) people that serve the machine ( Gives Slavery a new twist does
  32. it? ), anyways, the machine will send out an error code, which is echoed to the
  33. screen for the INSTITUTIONS needs, and generaly there IS a person either on
  34. their way, or they are there already, so watch around for people when you are
  35. looking at these machines.  Also depending on which "Network" ( Mpact / Pulse
  36. / Cirus etc, ), there will be a service that will call the Bank and
  37. notify the Mpact "Cooridinator", which is in charge of the ATM department at
  38. said bank, and they will come to the machine, or send someone to the machine,
  39. or depending on the codes listed below, may not send anyone at all.
  40.  
  41. THREE LETTER CODE ON ATM "OUT OF SERVICE":
  42.  
  43. AAA -- The ATM is down by host command in response to a fault or a supply out
  44.        status.*
  45.  
  46. CCC -- The host computer is out of service.**
  47.  
  48. DDD -- The ATM is not being polled due to a communications failure.
  49.  
  50. EEE -- The ATM supply switch is on.*
  51.  
  52. *   -- EEE is displayed in the lower right-hand corner when the Supply switch
  53.        is on.  When the switch is turned off, AAA is displayed until the
  54.        "go in service" command is received from the host.
  55.  
  56. **  -- CCC can also be displayed if the ATM is not being polled.  This occurs
  57.        when polling stops during a customer transaction.
  58.  
  59. Without going into to much detail, the following list which ranges from code
  60. #600 - #684, contains the codes that are reflected when a machine goes down,
  61. and you are forced to look at the stupid message, just look at the code at/near
  62. the bottom of the screen, and look down this list.  The code will be like this:

  75. The xxx is where the Following Number Codes reflect, I've copied this right out
  76. of the ATM Diagnostic Manual.  Read the Codes, Jot some down, and YOU may Learn
  77. something, if not, well thats your problem isn't it?
  78.  
  79. Message    : 600  In Service/Atm Open
  80. Description: The ATM has returned to service after being in the Supply mode or
  81.              a downline load has been completed following a power failure.
  82.  
  83. Message    : 601  Remote Load
  84. Description: The Power to the ATM is being restored after a power outage.  A
  85.              downline load is in progress.
  86.  
  87. Message    : 602  Alarm
  88. Description: The ATM should not send an alarm message to the host computer.
  89.              Either the burglar alarm interface or the ATM's micro-processor
  90.              is malfunctioning.
  91.  
  92. Message    : 603  Suply Mode
  93. Description: The ATM has been set to the Supply mode.  The Terminal owner
  94.              has the ATM out of service for balancing, replensihing supplies or
  95.              correcting fault conditions.
  96.  
  97. Message    : 604  Supervisory Mode
  98. Description: The ATM has been set to the Supervisory mode.  The ATM maintenance
  99.              personnel are monitoring the ATM.  The terminal owner will be
  100.              called for a service update if the ATM is in Supervisory mode
  101.              longer than one hour.
  102.  
  103. Message    : 606 Receipt Printer No Paper
  104.              607 Receipt Printer Failure
  105. Description: The receipt printer may be faulty, jammed or out of paper.  The
  106.              transaction is completed although the customer may NOT have
  107.              received a receipt.  The ATM is out of service.
  108.  
  109. Message    : 608 - Audit Printer No Paper
  110.              609 - Audi Printer Failure
  111. Description: The audit paper may be faulty, loadedincorrectly, jammed or out of
  112.              paper.  The customoer's transactions is completed but may not have
  113.              been logged on the audit tape.  The ATM is out of service.
  114.  
  115. Message    : 610 - Securomatic Error
  116. Description: The commercial depository has failed.  The ATM will remain in
  117.              service, but requests for bag deposits will be refused.
  118.  
  119. Message    : 611 - Dispenser No Cash
  120. Description: One of the dispensers is out of cash or there may be a problem
  121.              w/ the picker mechanism.  Additional status codes will be provided
  122.              if all dispensers are out of cash
  123.  
  124. Message    : 612 - Dispenser Failed
  125. Description: A fault occurred on the ATM during a cash dispense.  The
  126.              Transaction was completed or reversed depending on whether the
  127.              correct number of bills were dispensed.  The ATM is out of service
  128.  
  129. Message    : 613- Delivery Drawer Error
  130. Description: The ATM could not detect cash in the delivery drawer after a
  131.              dispense.  This is nearly always caused by the bills dropping into
  132.              the drawer at an angle where the sensors were not covered.  The
  133.              transaction was posted as completed and the ATM remains in service.
  134.  
  135. Message    : 614 - Depository Failed
  136. Description: The depository may be jammed or faulty and in some cases the
  137.              tranaction may reverse.  The ATM remains in service, but will
  138.              refuse deposit and payment requests.  On some ATM models, this
  139.              message can indicate that a depository cassette has not been
  140.              inserted.
  141.  
  142. Message    : 615 - Card Reader Failed
  143. Description: The card reader is jammed/faulty.  The ATM is out of service.
  144.  
  145. Message    : 616 - Cash Left In Tray
  146. Description: During a cash dispense the ATM detected something already in the
  147.              delivery tray.  The delivery door will remain in the locked
  148.              position.  The current transaction is reversed and the amount is
  149.              printed on the audit tape w/ the message "BANK CASH IN TRAY".  This
  150.              amount belongs to the terminal owner.  Any additional cash will be
  151.              credited by an adjusting entry to the customer who performed the
  152.              last w/drawal transaction listed on the audit tape prior to the
  153.              amount w/ themessage "BANK CASH IN TRAY".  The ATM is out of
  154.              service.
  155.  
  156. Message    : 618 - No Command Reply
  157. Description: The ATM did not reply to the last transaction command.  The
  158.              probable cause is a slow host response
  159.  
  160. Message    : 620 Reject Message
  161. Description: The ATM rejected a host command.  If a remote load is in process,
  162.              the load will be restarted.
  163.  
  164. Message    : 621 Money Trapped
  165. Description: If the ATM detects three successive w/drawals where dispensed
  166.              bills could not be sensed in the delivery tray, the ATM is
  167.              commanded out of service.
  168.  
  169. Message    : 622 Door Not Open
  170. Description: The delivery door was never opened by the customer or the door is
  171.              faulty, causing the transaction to reverse.  The ATM is out of
  172.              service.
  173.  
  174. Message    : 623 Unable To Return Card
  175. Description: The card reader could not eject a card and it was forced into the
  176. capture bin.  The ATM may or may not remain in service.
  177.  
  178. Message    : 624 Panel Reset
  179. Description: The battery backup of the ATM failed during a power failure
  180.              causing inaccurate panel totals.  The ATM is out of service.
  181.  
  182. Message    : 626 Depository Full
  183. Description: The depository cassette is full.  The ATM remains in service but
  184.              deposit and payment requests will be refused.
  185.  
  186. Message    : 627 Supervisory off
  187. Description: The Supervisory mode has been exited.  The ATM maintenance
  188.              personnel have completed the needed repairs.
  189.  
  190. Message    : 629 Maximum Card Read Error
  191. Description: This is an indication that 40 successive card read errors have
  192.              occurred.  The ATM may or may NOT remain in service.
  193.  
  194. Message    : 630 Bill Count Warning
  195. Description: The ATM has dispensed an undetermined number of bills causing the
  196.              ATM to go out of service.  The bill conditin may be inadequate.
  197.  
  198. Message    : 631 Dispenser 1 Divert Full
  199.              632 Dispenser 2 Divert Full
  200. Description: The specified divert cassette is full and the ATM is out of
  201.              service.
  202.  
  203. Message    : 633 Dispenser 1 Bill Supply Low
  204.              634 Dispenser 2 Bill Supply Low
  205. Description: The ATM cash supply in the specified dispenser is low.  This is
  206.              advisory only.  The transaction was completed and the ATM remains
  207.              in service.
  208.  
  209. Message    : 635 Dispenser 1 Failed
  210.              636 Dispenser 2 Failed
  211. Description: An unrecoverable fault has occurred on the specified dispenser
  212.              which is out of srevice, but dispensing continues from the
  213.              remaining dispenser.
  214.  
  215. Message    : 637 Dispenser 1 Warning
  216.              638 Dispenser 2 Warning
  217. Description: A recoverable fault has occurred on the specified dispenser and
  218.              the ATM remains in service.
  219.  
  220. Message    : 639 Dispenser 1 No Cash
  221.              640 Dispenser 2 No Cash
  222. Description: One of the dispensers is either out of cash orunable to dispense
  223.              due to a jammed bill or a faulty picker mechanism.  Dispensing
  224.              continues from the remaining side.  The ATM may/may not be out of
  225.              service.
  226.  
  227. Message    : 641 All Dispensers Down
  228. Description: All dispensers in the ATM have failed.  The ATM is out of service
  229.              resulting from one or more fault messages.
  230.  
  231. Message    : 642 Door Open Dispense
  232. Description: The delivery door was detected open during a dispense.  the
  233.              transaction was reversed and the ATM is out of service.
  234.  
  235. Message    : 644 Cycle Errors
  236. Description: The motor which drives the dispenser and depository has not
  237.              cycled properly.  This message follows a dispense fault message.
  238.              The ATM is out of service.
  239.  
  240. Message    : 646 Micro Processor Failed
  241. Description: The ATM microcomputer has failed and the ATM is out of service.
  242.  
  243. Message    : 647 Display Failed
  244. Description: The plasma display has failed and the ATM is out of service.
  245.  
  246. Message    : 649 Des Decryption Error ( DIEBOLD, LEFEBURE, AND NCR )
  247. Description: Suspected Pin key difference between ATM and host.  The ATM will
  248.              display a "Welcome" screen; however, transactions will not be
  249.              completed.
  250.  
  251. Message    : 649 Des Decryption Error ( Docutel )
  252. Description: Same as Above
  253.  
  254. Message    : 653 MAC REJECT 1 ( DIEBOLD, LeFEBURE, and NCR )
  255. Desription : The ATM and host are using different MAC keys.  The ATM is out of
  256.              service.
  257.  
  258. Message    : 654 MAC REJECT 2 ( DIEBOLD, LeFEBURE, and NCR )
  259. Description: Time out messages and replies are out of steop due to queuing
  260.              while RBS was out of service.  The Current Transactin can not be
  261.              completed.
  262.  
  263. Message    : 656 Remote Load End
  264. Description: Completion of a Remote load has been achieved.
  265.  
  266. Message    : 657 Supply Off
  267. Description: The Supply mode has been exited.  All fault conditions have been
  268.              cleared at the host computer level.
  269.  
  270. Message    : 658 Outer Terminal Door Alarm
  271. Description: The Door Has Been opened.
  272.  
  273. Message    : 659 Anti Ambush Activate
  274. Description: The Operator has triggered an alarm while opening the ATM chest.
  275.  
  276. Message    : 660 Chest Door Open
  277. Description: This alarm will normally occur when the ATM is in the supply
  278.              mode.
  279.  
  280. Message    : 661 Burglary Alarm
  281. Description: The ATM burglary alarm has been set off indicating a burglary is
  282.              in process.
  283.  
  284. Message    : 662 One Additional Bill
  285. Description: An extra bill was dispensed which the diverter could not
  286.              intercept.  The ATM is out of service.
  287.  
  288. Message    : 663 Unsolicited Bill
  289. Description: A dispenser fault has occurred indicating a bill was detected at
  290.              the trail sensor during the two-second start up for the high or
  291.              low side dispenser.  The ATM is out of service.
  292.  
  293. Message    : 664 Wrong Side Dispense
  294. Description: A dispenser fault occurred detecting the low denomination bill
  295.              sensor blocked during the dispensing of high denomination bills.
  296.              The ATM is out of service.  ANY CASH FOUND BELONGS TO THE
  297.              TERMINAL OWNER.
  298.  
  299. Message    : 665 Bill Sensors Low
  300. Description: A dispenser fault occurred indicating the low voltage of an
  301.              unblocked bill sensor.  the ATM is out of service.  ANY CASH FOUND
  302.              BELONGS TO THE TERMINAL OWNER.
  303.  
  304. Message    : 666 Divertor Fault
  305. Description: A fault has occurred w/ the diverter mechanism.  The ATM is out
  306.              of service.
  307.  
  308. Message    : 667 Misadjusted Double Detect
  309. Description: A fault has occurred where too many diverts were attempted during
  310.              a high denomination dispense, or on a "long bill" if a "double
  311.              bill" was detected too many times for a given bill width.  The ATM
  312.              is out of service.
  313.  
  314. Message    : 668 Long Bill
  315. Description: A fault occurred indicating the mesasured bill width is too long
  316.              for the bill to be a sing bill or only to overlapped bills.  The
  317.              ATM is out of service.
  318.  
  319. Message    : 669 JAM
  320. Description: This is an indication there is a bill blocking the high or low
  321.              denomination bill sensor.  The ATM is out of service.
  322.  
  323. Message    : 670 Lead/No Trail
  324. Description: This is an indication there is a bill blocking the high or low
  325.              denomination lead bill sensor, but not the trail sensor or vice
  326.              versa.
  327.  
  328. Message    : 671 Sensor Not Blocked After Dispense
  329. Description: The money dispensed from the high/low or low side failed to block
  330.              the appropriate bill sensor.  The atm is out of service.  Any cash
  331.              found belongs to the terminal owner.
  332.  
  333. Message    : 672 Exit Fault Sense
  334. Description: The maximum unsuccessful consecutive attempts to divert a bill
  335.              has occurred.  The ATM is out of service.
  336.  
  337. Message    : 674 Dispenser 3 Divert Full
  338.            : 675 Dispenser 4 Divert Full
  339. Description: The specified divert cassette is full.  The ATM is out of
  340.              service.  An unusually large number of bills are being diverted.
  341.              The bill condition may be inadequate or the dispenser may need
  342.              servicing.
  343.  
  344. Message    : 676 Dispenser 3 Bill Supply Low
  345.            : 677 Dispenser 4 Bill Supply Low
  346. Description: The ATM cash supply in the specified dispenser is low.  This is
  347.              advisory only.  The transaction was completed and the ATM remains
  348.              in service.
  349.  
  350. Message    : 678 Dispenser 3 Failed
  351.            : 679 Dispenser 4 Failed
  352. Description: An unrecoverable fault has occurred on the specified dispenser
  353.              which is out of service, but dispensing continues from the
  354.              remaining dispenser.

  356. Message    : 680 Dispenser 3 Warning
  357.            : 681 Dispenser 4 Warning
  358. Description: A recoverable fault has occurred on the specified dispenser side
  359.              and the ATM remains in service.

  361. Message    : 682 Docutel Fitt Reject
  362. Description: Possible communication error.  The ATM is out of service
  363.  
  364. Message    : 683 Docutel Key Change Message Reject
  365. Description: The ATM has rejected a key change message.  For the 2300/2380,
  366.              this normally occurs if the ATM operator exits the Supply mode too
  367.              quickly. The ATM is out of service.
  368.  
  369. Message    : 684 3 Consecutively Captured Cards
  370.            : 685 5 Consecutively Captured Cards
  371. Description: The ATM has captured the specified number of cards.  The
  372.              keyboard/keypad may be faulty.  The ATM is out of service.

  375. Well that is it, now if you EVER are at an ATM machine and you see the
  376. Temporarily Out Of Service, just scan for the Triple Letter/Triple # code and
  377. you'll be more educated, probably, than the person that will eventually show
  378. up to fix the problem.
